Ben Sheets mowed down 12 Kansas City batters at Dodger Stadium as the Los
Angeles Dodgers won a thriller over the Kansas City Royals in, 4 to 1.
Los Angeles erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3
runs. Gregg Zaun opened up the inning nicely when he was hit by a pitch.
Adrian Beltre stepped up next and he drew a walk. Gary Sheffield then belted
a three-run homer (his 1st of the season) making Los Angeles victorious to
the delight of the the home town crowd. The teams had been locked in a
scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
Sheets(1-0), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Juan
Cruz(0-1) was given the loss in relief. Peyton Naquin was asked about the
performance of Sheets, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight. The fans
really get into it when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to
give him even more adrenalin.'
