Right fielder J.D. Drew hit one over the fence as the St. Louis Cardinals won
in dramatic fashion over the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 3 to 2 at
Miller Park.

St. Louis came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
with 3 runs using 3 hits. Drew got things rolling when he smashed a
bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 8th of the season). Jim Edmonds stepped into the
batter's box and he slapped a one-base hit. Travis Lee then drew a walk.
Melvin Mora stepped in and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. David Dellucci
stepped into the box and ripped a base-knock with two more runners crossing
home. Pittsburgh was out-hit by St. Louis, 10 hits to 7.

Norm Charlton(4-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Troy
Percival recorded his 12th save. The loss was charged to Byung-Hyun Kim(1-5)
in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 3 hits and 1 walk.

John Helmbrecht was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your
last at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out
there? You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey,
that's what makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says,
'it's not over 'til its over.'

Toby Hall blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI and Woody Williams carried a

Chicago White Sox 6 to 0.

Williams(3-2) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Chicago offense. He
didn't allow much, just 1 hit and no walks in 9 innings. The right-handed
Williams lost his no-hit bid when Paul Konerko singled with nobody out in the
8th inning. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was
able to score again.

The loss was charged to Willis Roberts(0-1). He got hit pretty hard, allowing
7 hits and 3 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.

Manny Ramirez cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at The Ballpark as the
Cleveland Indians came back dramatically to top the Boston Red Sox by the
score of 6 to 5.

Cleveland came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3
runs using 3 hits. After two outs Damian Jackson got things rolling when he
laced a base-knock. Geoff Jenkins stepped into the batter's box and he
stroked a base-hit. Ramirez then belted a three-run homer (his 12th of the
season) making Cleveland the victor and beginning a joyous home town
celebration. Cleveland banged out 9 on the night.

The win was credited to Mike Jackson(1-0) who went 1/3 of an inning allowing
no runs. Derek Lowe(1-2) was given the loss in relief. Jackson and Ramirez
were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind
victory. As Mark Riley noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a
team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even
you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'

Seattle slams their way to a 20-3 victory

Seattle's offense goes on a tirade, scoring 20 runs on 21 hits. Two grand slams (Devon White, Dan Wilson) provided a lead of 14-0 after 4 innings. Sele gets his first win of the season. One positive to note for the Phillies as they did strikeout 15.

Dan Wilson cleared three ducks from a very crowded pond with a grand slam as
the Philadelphia Phillies were badly beaten by the Seattle Mariners, 20 to
3.

Wilson had a big day against Philadelphia. He smacked a single scoring a run
in the 1st inning and quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam (his 4th of
the season) in the 4th inning. Seattle bats were hot in the 1st inning with
4 runs on 6 hits, the 2nd inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits and
the 4th inning when they had 5 runs on 3 hits. The Seattle offense poured it
on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

Aaron Sele(1-1) got the win allowing 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Sele got
relief help from Ryan Franklin who gained credit for his 1st save. The loss
was charged to Robert Person(2-4). He allowed 8 runs and 9 hits in 1 and 1/3
innings.

The winning ways continue for Seattle. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days. With the loss, the Philadelphia ballclub's record is 12-10.
