Braves Captain Getting it Done

Atlanta (AP) - Last season, the Atlanta Braves posted a disappointing 72-90 record. Things have changed for the better in Atlanta this year, and team captain Derek Jeter is leading the way. Leading the league with 22 runs scored in the early going, Derek currently has a .352 batting average.

Jeter has been a solid contributor for the Braves since the initial 2000 season. He is currently 7th in career hits with 724 (Todd Helton leads with 794). "Mr. Consistency" has posted four strong seasons with batting averages of .329 (2000), .292 (2001), .276 (2002) and .305 (2003).

The Braves are currently leading the Killebrew division with a 13-8 record and Derek Jeter has been leading the way.

Marlins' Peavy Racking Up Wins

Miami (AP) - When the Marlins made Jake Peavy their #1 draft choice in the 2002 draft, they envisioned a power pitcher at the top of their rotation. These dreams have come true. Drafted 5th and after Carlos Zambrano (Twins), Mark Prior (Indians), Travis Haffner (Blue Jays) and Carl Crawford (Red Sox), Jake might have been the steal of the 2002 draft.

Peavy finished with a 13-13 record and a 4.61 ERA last season. But this year, Peavy has come out firing on all cyclinders: 5 starts, 5-0 record, 2.06 ERA and 42 K's in 38 innings. Jake has been a big contributor towards the Marlins fast 18-3 start.
