2020 Draft Lottery

 We will be conducting our draft lottery on Monday, August 9th and Tuesday, August10th.........

The “Pennsylvania Daily Number Evening” lottery (http://www.palottery.state.pa.us/) on subsequent nights (7PM EST) will be used to decide who gets the #1 and #2 picks in the first round only. If the second pick yields the same result as the first night, then a third night’s lottery drawing will be used. The remaining 10 teams will draft in reverse order of record. So, the team with the poorest record can do no worst than pick third in the first round.

Washington Nationals Are 2019 Champions!

Congratulations to the Washington Nationals for defeating the Cleveland Indians in six games for the 2019 Millennium Championship.  A summary of the games:

GAME 1 - CLEV 5, WASH 4:  C. J. Cron hit a solo homer in the top of the 9th to break a 4-4 tie and Sergio Romo recorded his 6th save of the post season as the Tribe wins the first game 5-4.

GAME 2 - WASH, CLEV 2:  Juan Soto had three hits including a homer as the Nats evened the series at a game a piece.  Max Fried pitched 5+ innings without allowing an earned run to defeat post season star Justin Verlander.

GAME 3 - WASH 14, CLEV 2:  Mike Trout had a double, two homers, four hits, 3 runs scored and 5 ribbies to lead Washington in a 14-2 laugher over Cleveland.

GAME 4 - CLEV 5, WASH 0:  Chris Paddack fanned 10 batters over 7 scoreless innings and Hunter Renfroe provided the offense (3 hits, homer, 2 runs scored and 2 ribbies) as the Tribe evened the series at 2-2.

GAME 5 - WASH 5, CLEV 1:  Sonny Gray pitched into the 9th inning and Mike Trout hit his seventh homer of this postseason as the Nats win 5-1.

GAME 6 - WASH 2, CLEV 1:  Catcher Will Smith hit a walk off solo homer in the bottom of the 9th to give Washington their first Millennium championship.

 

Washington Joins Cleveland in Fall Classic

 

Juan Soto and the Washington Nationals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in five games.  A recap of the semi-final series:

Game One (WASH 6, STL 4) - The Nationals used the long ball to get to Jacob deGrom, as Kevin Newman, Mike Tauchman, and Jose Ramirez, each went yard, to spearhead a 6-4 game one victory. Tim Hill threw two shutout innings in relief of starter Sonny Gray to get the win. deGrom went seven, striking out 10 and took the loss.

Game Two (WASH 7, STL 6 in 16 INNINGS) - The two teams were tied at 4 after six innings and then the bats went deadly silent. Fans would have to wait until the 16th inning to see another run cross the plate and they got much more then they bargined for. St. Louis scored two runs in the top of the 16th off Ryan Yarborough. Javy Baez lead off the bottom of the 16th with a solo homer to cut the lead to one. After an out was recorded, JD Martinez drew a walk, then Juan Soto sent a bomb over the left-center wall to give the Nats the win and a 2-0 series lead.

Game Three (WASH 5, STL 2) - With a depleted bullpen, Washington had no choice but to hand the game over to Stephen Strasburg and go as long as humanly possible. The Nats' bats were very patient with Cards starter Zach Plesac, drawing five walks and scoring three runs over his six innings. Strasburg conserved his pitches as best he could and was able to go the distance, striking out 10 to get the win. Washington leads the series 3-0.

Game Four (STL 2, WASH 1 in 16 INNINGS) - These two teams enjoyed their 16 inning affair so much in Game Two, they decided to match it in Game Four. Both teams tied at one, headed into extra innings, as both bullpens shined. In the 16th innings, catcher Tucker Barnhart, drove home Carlos Santana with the running run. Washington leads the series 3 games to 1,

Game Five (WASH 7, STL 0) - The fifth game of this series was the Max Fried show. Fried spun seven shutout innings, fanning eight Cardinals. Juan Soto and Mike Trout homered for Washington, giving them a four-to-one series win.

Cleveland Headed to World Series

 

The Cleveland Indians eliminated the Toronto Blue Jays 4 games to 2 in a semi-final matchup.  A recap of the series:  

Game 1

Tommy Edman 2-run single and 2-base throwing error from Laureano is the diff in this one. Shoemaker wins, Romo save, Trevor May takes the loss. 

Game 2

Blue-Jays....... 0 0 0  0 1 2  0 0    -  3  8  0

Luis Castillo and 3 RP combine for the shutout. Gurriel and Donaldson each homer. Verlander with the loss. Robles gets the Save. 

Game 3

Both teams break out the bats. Boyd hangs on for the win. Lynn hit hard in 2 1/3, 8 hits, 2 BB, 5 runs all earned. Trevor May not much help. Donaldson hits a 3-run HR and Eric Sogard gets 3 hits with a 2B and a HR.

Blue Jays hit Montas early and often. 15 hit attack with Conforto adding a HR. Eric Sogard hits 2 more HRs in a losing cause, goes 4/4.

Indians......... 0 3 0  1 0 0  0 0 1  -  5 10  2

Gurriel hits a game-tying HR with two outs in the top of the 9th. Edman hits a game-winning HR in the bottom of the inning.

Trevor Story comes to life with 2 HRs. Verlander gets the win. Romo gets the save. Loss goes to Bummer.  Special call out for Rowan Wick, the guy who pitched 35 scoreless innings during the season. He has thrown another 4 2/3 scoreless in 6 postseason appearances. 

Nats Send Dodgers Packing

 

The Washington Nationals eliminated the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.  A recap of the series:

GAME 1 - WASH 10, LA 1:  J.D. Martinez cracked 2 homeruns and Sonny Gray retired 10 batters on strikeouts as the Washington Nationals bested the Los Angeles Dodgers 10 to 1 at Citizens Bank Park.  Gray(1-0) pitched well for Washington in their victory.  He was reached for 6 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 2/3 innings.  Washington had 11 hits for the game and Los Angeles had 7.  Patrick Corbin(0-1) took the loss.  He was touched for 4 homeruns in his 4 innings of work.

GAME 2 - WASH 3, LA 1:  Stephen Strasburg delivered 5 solid innings at Citizens Bank Park as the Washington Nationals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by the count of 3 to1. Washington scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning with the help of 3 hits.  Will Smith got things rolling when he ripped a solo home run.  Kevin Newman followed next and he banged out a single.  Jose Ramirez then laced a single.  Javier Baez got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Willie Calhoun stepped into the box and hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning.  Strasburg(1-0) got help from Shane Greene who pitched great and earned his 1st save.  Yu Darvish(0-1) absorbed the loss.  Despite the loss, he struckout 13 Washington batters in 7 innings.

GAME 3 - WASH 1, LA 0:  In a game for the baseball purist, Tyler Glasnow(1-0) and Hyun-Jin Ryu(0-1) squared off in a tense pitching duel, Washington Nationals finally emerged victorious over Los Angeles Dodgers, 1 to 0.  The game's only run was scored in the 7th inning.  Glasnow got help from Liam Hendriks who pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with his 1st save.

GAME 4 - LA 5, WASH 3:  Third baseman Eugenio Suarez cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the Los Angeles Dodgers won in dramatic fashion over the Washington Nationals by a score of 5 to 3 at Dodger Stadium. Los Angeles scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 base hits.  Stephen Vogt began things off when he delivered a solo blast.  Ozzie Albies came next and he lined a base-hit.  Brandon Nimmo was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim.  Miguel Sano got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.  Suarez came to the plate and lifted one out of the park for a two run home run making Los Angeles the winners and sending the 51,033 fans home happy.  Los Angeles finished with 7 hits in the victory.  The victory was credited to Colin Poche(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Chris Martin(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief.

GAME 5 - WASH 4, LA 1:  Javier Baez had 2 base hits at Dodger Stadium as the Washington Nationals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers by the count of 4 to 1.  Sonny Gray(2-0) gave a fine effort for Washington.  He was reached for 3 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings lowering his ERA to 0.71.  Liam Hendriks pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 2nd save.   Patrick Corbin(0-2) took the loss.  He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 4 hits and 2 walks.

Redbirds Eliminate Marlins in Five Games

Anthony Rendon batted .348 with three homers and eight ribbies to lead the St. Louis Cardinals in a quarter final series victory over the Miami Marlins.  (These same two teams met in the 2018 playoffs as Miami defeated St. Louis in six games.)

GAME 1

Marlins 3, Cardinals 0

Gerrit Cole pitched eight dominating innings while fanning 10 Cardinal batters to outduel Jacob Degrom who surrendered 3 runs over 7 innings.  All three Marlin runs were scored in the second inning as Paul Goldschmidt drove in 2 runs and Marwin Gonzalez knoced in one run.  Kirby Yates pitched a 1-2-3 9th inning for the easy win.

 

GAME 2

Cardinals 8, Marlins 6

In a real shocker, St. Louis scored 5 runs in the top of the 9th to overcome a 6-3 Miami lead for a come from behind victory.  The key hit was a bases loaded two out double by Keston Hiura off closer Aroldis Chapman who gave up four runs in the 9th inning.  Earlier in the game, Miami's Bryce Harper scored two and knocked in two to give Miami a 6-0 lead after five innings before St. Louis mounted their comeback.

 

GAME 3

Cardinals 5, Marlins 4 (10)

The Cardinals' Anthony Rendon hit a homer in the bottom of the 10th off Andrew Chafin for the walk off victory.  Earlier in the game, Kyle Schwarber hit two homers and drove in three runs for St.  Louis.  Nolan Arenado had three hits and knocked in three runs for Miami. Trailing by a run, Miami tied the game with a run in the top of the 9th off closer Archie Bradley.

 

GAME 4

Cardinals 10, Marlins 2

In a rematch of their game 1 duel, Jacob Degrom (6 innings, 5 K's, 1 run allowed) defeated Gerrit Cole (3 innings, 5 K's, 6 earned runs allowed) as St. Louis wins 10-2.  St. Louis batters hit six doubles and two home runs in their offensive attack.  Degrom himself went 2 for 2 with a double, run scored and a RBI.

 

GAME 5

Cardinals 7, Marlins 1

Aaron Nola only allowed 2 hits and 1 run while fanning 8 over seven strong innings as St. Louis eliminated Miami.  Anthony Rendon broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 6th with a 2-run homer. St. Louis scored four times in the bottom of the 7th to break the game wide open.

 

Tribe Advances Behind Verlander

 

The Cleveland Indians, behind Justin Verlander, eliminated the second seeded New York Yankees in a quarterfinal playoff series:

Jeff McNeil had three hits, 2 ribbies and a homer for the Bronx Bombers

Donovan Solano had a bases loaded 3-run double in the 7th as the Tribe held a 4-0 lead going to the bottom of the 9th.  But, the Yanks scored three runs in the bottom of the 9th before Sergio Romo got the final out for the save. Cleveland's Verlander struck out 12 in 6 scoreless innings.  Loser Bieber struck out 11 and gave up 3 runs in his 6+ innings of work.

 9/23 NYA  2  6  0  CLA  1  8  0      K.Hendricks (1-0)     C.Paddack (0-1)

Another nail biter.  Solo homers by McNeil and Voit gave New York a 2-0 lead going to the bottom of the 9th.  Anthony Bass gave up a rbi double to Sogard before closing out the Tribe for the win.

Matt Carpenter hit a homer and drove in three runs as the Tribe evened the series at 2-2.

Cleveland's Walker Buelher struck out 11 over 7+ innings and Cleveland held on for 4-3 win.  Sergio Romo pitched a 1-2-3 9th to record his second save.

 9/27 CLA  1  3  1  NYA  0  6  0      J.Verlander (2-0)     S.Bieber (0-2)

Justin Verlander fanned 13 in 6+ innings of scoreless baseball and six Indian relievers kept New York off the scoreboard for the series win.  Max Kepler hit a solo shot in the 6th for the game's only win.

Blue Jays Eliminate Halos

 

The Toronto Blue Jays eliminated the Anaheim Angels in a hard-fought 6-game series victory in the first round of the MSL playoffs.

 

The Jays slugged 15 home runs in the series, including 3 each by Michael Conforto and Edwin Encarnacion.

 

GAME 1

Blue Jays 5, Angels 2

Charlie Morton struck out 10 and was backed up by 3 homers by Michael Conforto (a 3-run shot), Ketel Marte, and Josh Donaldson. Anaheim was blanked until J.T. Realmuto's 2-run HR in the 9th.

 

GAME 2

Blue Jays 5, Angels 3

Luis Castillo and 4 relievers combined on a 1-hitter and Edwin Encarnacion belted 2 homers. Anaheim again fell behind early, but bounced back to within 4-3 on Matt Olson's 3-run HR in the 3rd. But Encarnacion followed with his second blast in the home half of the inning.

 

GAME 3

Blue Jays 3, Angels 2

Ramon Laureano hit a tie-breaking HR in the 7th and Lance Lynn struck out 8 in 6-1/3 innings. Anaheim loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 7th, but sluggers Matt Olson and Pete Alonso were retired. A lack of clutch hitting followed in the 8th when the Angels had runners on 1st and 3rd with one out but could not score.

 

GAME 4

Angels 5, Blue Jays 4

Anaheim appeared dead when Michael Conforto hit a 2-run homer in the 11th inning. But Yoan Moncada matched Conforto with a 2-run blast in the home half with his team's back to the wall. Jorge Soler then won it with a solo shot in the 12th.

 

GAME 5

Angels 10, Blue Jays 3

Yoan Moncada drove in 3 runs and Marco Gonzales and Jared Hughes combined on a 5-hitter in the series' only laugher.

 

GAME 6

Blue Jays 4, Angels 3

Bryan Reynolds delivered a pinch-hit tie-breaking single in the 7th and Luis Castillo combined on a 4-hitter. Anaheim jumped out early as Mark Canha led off the game with a homer and Matt Olson added an RBI double in the 3rd. But Marcus Semien hit a solo HR and Edwin Encarnacion added a 2-run dinger for a 3-2 Toronto lead in the 5th. Anaheim bounced back to load the bases in the top of the 7th, but could only score once on Phillip Ervin's sac fly.
