One run was the difference at Comerica Park as the Chicago White Sox defeated
the St. Louis Cardinals in 10 innings 5 to 4.
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Chicago won the
hard fought contest in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Gary
Matthews Jr cracked a solo homerun giving Chicago the win and sending the
home town fans into a frenzy. Chicago finished with 13 hits while St. Louis
ended up with 7.
Mike Gonzalez(2-2) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 2 innings. Chad
Cordero(0-3) took the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up
1 hit and no walks.
