Even though Bedard had given up a run in the 4th (Bourn stole 2nd and 3rd, and Damon put down an excellent suicide squeeze), he had a no-hitter into the top of the 9th. With 2 outs, Alexei Ramirez just barely snuck a ball past Aramis Ramirez for the 1st hit of the game for the Red Sox. Oakland still won 4-1. |

WEB GEMS- Bot 8th: Clete Thomas robbed Aramis Ramirez of an extra base hit.
Aramis Ramirez went deep and Erik Bedard took a no-hitter into the 9th inning
as the Oakland A's outscored the Boston Red Sox 4 to 1.
Bedard(4-1) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Boston offense. He
surrendered only 1 hit and 3 walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from 1.93
to 1.70. The left-handed Bedard had his no-hit bid broken up by Alexei
Ramirez who singled with two outs in the 9th inning. Oakland finished with
10 hits in the victory.
Matt Cain(1-3) absorbed the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 7 innings.
