Players of the Block - Block 1

CARLOS DELGADO (ANA) -- AL Batter of the Block
Anaheim's Carlos Delgago earns the AL honors for the first block by batting .368, hitting 6 home runs, and driving in 23. He also scored 15 runs and had an OBP of .495.

JAY PAYTON (SLN) -- NL Batter of the Block
Jay Payton had an impressive debut block for St. Louis. He batted .380 with a slugging percentage of .704 (5 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs). He drove in 20 while also scoring 18 times.

RYAN FRANKLIN (SEA) -- AL Pitcher of the Block
Seattle starter Ryan Franklin was 4-0 in block 1 with an ERA of 2.53. In 42 2/3 innings of work he showed great control, walking only 7 and striking out 26.

CARLOS ZAMBRANO (OAA) -- NL Pitcher of the Block
Oakland starter Carlos Zambrano had 2 shutouts in block 1. He was 3-1 for the period with an ERA of 1.78. He struckout 27 in 30 1/3 innings of work.
