Players of the Block - Block 1

ELLIS BURKS (SFN) -- AL Batter of the Block
San Francisco outfielder Ellis Burks earns the AL honors for the first block of 2002. He led the league in RBIs (25), Runs Scored (25) as well as batting average (.455). In addition to that, he belted 6 home runs and recorded a SLG percentage of .727.

RYAN KLESKO (NYA) -- NL Batter of the Block
New York slugger Ryan Klesko was an easy choice for the NL award this block. His incredible 32 RBIs in 21 games help lead NY to their early season dominance in the NL. In addition to his RBIs, he batted .429 with 11 doubles and 6 home runs.

ORLANDO HERNANDEZ (SEA) -- AL Pitcher of the Block
Seattle starter Orlando Hernandez became the first 4 game winner of the season in the AL, winning all 4 of his starts. His ERA for the block was 2.20 and he struckout 19.

PAUL BYRD (NYA) -- NL Pitcher of the Block
Another New Yorker joins Klesko in the NL with an award of his own. Paul Byrd was 6-0 in the first block of the season. In his 42 innings of work he allowed only 28 hits and recorded an ERA of 2.79.
