Carlos Zambrano makes his MSL debut against the Red Sox


Zambrano impressed in his debut giving up only 4 hits, striking out 5 in 6 2/3 innings. He was charged with the loss though as his Twins fell 2-1 to Boston. Jose Cruz, Jr. hit a 7th inning solo homerun against Zambrano, which ended up to be the difference.

In a game for the baseball purist, Mike Maroth(1-0) and Carlos Zambrano(0-1)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Boston Red Sox finally emerged
victorious over Minnesota Twins, 2 to 1.

Maroth pitched well enough to earn the win. He went 6 innings surrendering 8
hits and 3 walks. Maroth got help from John Smoltz who pitched great and
earned his 1st save.
