Andruw Jones smacked 3 homeruns and had 7 RBI and Greg Maddux tossed a
complete game as the Los Angeles Dodgers were badly beaten by the Atlanta
Braves, 16 to 3.
Jones was spectacular at the plate. The hometown fans showed their
appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat. He popped a
two-run clout over the fence in the 1st inning, cracked a solo homerun in the
2nd inning, doubled which scored a run in the 4th inning, lofted a three-run
'big-fly' (his 12th of the season) in the 5th inning and doubled in the 7th
inning. Atlanta bats were very productive in the 1st inning with 7 runs on 7
hits and the 5th inning when they had 5 runs on 4 hits. Atlanta banged out
19 on the night.
Maddux(4-2) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Mike
Mussina(4-4) was hit with the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 1 and 2/3
innings.
'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Jones said. 'Whenever I
would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'
