Boston survives to beat Oakland 15-12



Boston took a seemingly comfortable 12-4 lead into the bottom of the 8th, but 7 walks, 1 wild pitch, 4 pitchers and amazingly only 2 hits later, the A's tied the score at 12. In the top of the 9th, Boston scored 3 runs, highlighted by Dan Uggla's 5th hit of the game have the Red Sox a 15-12 lead. Tom Gordon, who gave up the tying runs in the 8th, set down the A's in order to get the win.

Dan Uggla blasted 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
Oakland A's by a score of 15 to 12 at SAFECO Field.

Boston had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs
on 4 hits. Chris Burke led off and keyed the rally when he doubled. After
an out was recorded, Johnny Damon came to the plate and ripped a base-knock.
Damon was running on the next pitch and he stole second. After another out,
Uggla stepped in and he doubled. Mark Teixeira stepped into the box and drew
a walk. Ken Griffey Jr continued the rally and slapped a base-hit. Griffey
Jr took second on the throw. Nomar Garciaparra next to the plate and he was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Yuniesky Betancourt was a strikeout
victim, unable to help out. Boston lit up the scoreboard in the 8th inning
with 8 runs on 5 hits. Boston finished with 17 hits while Oakland ended up
with 7.

The victory was credited to Tom Gordon(2-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Jesse Crain(0-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He
pitched 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 8 hits and 3 walks.
