Minnesota's David Ortiz had a monster game for the hometown fans in a big win over Atlanta on April 19. Ortiz, who hit .265 with 19 homers in 388 at bats last season, seems posed to have a breakout season. Ortiz drove in 8 runs (the Millennium record is 9 by K. Caminiti) that included a grand slam.

David Ortiz smacked 2 homeruns as the Minnesota Twins topped the Atlanta
Braves by a score of 14 to 5 at Tropicana Field.
Ortiz was really 'in the zone'. He emptied the bases with a Grand Slam
homerun in the 2nd inning, slapped a single in the 6th inning and lost the
ball over the fence for three runs (his 2nd of the season) in the 7th inning.
Minnesota ended up with 16 hits for the game while Atlanta had 8.
Josh Beckett(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 3 runs. Kevin Millwood(0-1) was charged with the loss. He was
unable to control the Minnesota offense and allowed 12 hits and 3 walks in 5
and 2/3 innings.
'Ortiz led the way - we just jumped on his back and let him take us,' Beckett
said. 'I'm glad I don't have to face him. I'm glad he's on my team.'
