Joe Mauer had 2 base hits as the Kansas City Royals bested the Atlanta Braves


in 11 innings 6 to 3 at Jacobs Field.





Both teams had scored 3 runs after nine full innings. Kansas City was


victorious in the 11th inning. Mauer led off and keyed the rally when he hit


a single. Magglio Ordonez followed and he reached on an error. Hanley


Ramirez dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Jim Thome was up


next and he smacked a three-run homer. Ryan Zimmerman was next to bat, but


he was a strikeout victim. Kansas City had a total of 10 hits for the game.





Bobby Jenks(1-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Joel Hanrahan


earned his 1st save. Jeff Bennett(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief.

White Sox Select Longoria with First Pick


The Chicago White Sox selected infielder Evan Longoria with the first pick in the 2008 draft.

Evan's 2007 season was busy as he played in a total of 171 games combined with AA Montgomery (105), AAA Durham regular season (31) and postseason (8), Arizona Fall League (12) and Team USA (15)...batted .298 (188-630) with 42 doubles, 33 home runs and 115 RBI...Had a combined .402 (231-575) on-base pct. at Durham and Montgomery and batted .323 (43-133) with runners in scoring position...Selected for the All-Star Futures Game and batted third for the U.S. team.....
