WEB GEMS- Bot 2nd: Carlos Guillen robbed Carlos Delgado of a base hit.
Bot 8th: Jason Kendall blocked the plate, saving a run!
First baseman Carlos Delgado blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Toronto
ballclub rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over Pittsburgh
Pirates, 14 to 13.
Toronto scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning scoring 3
runs on 5 hits. After an out was recorded, Mark McLemore was the sparkplug
when he stroked a one-base hit. Joe Oliver was a strikeout victim, unable to
help out. Shannon Stewart then delivered a base-hit. Rich Becker came up
and he slapped a single to load the bases. Delgado stepped into the box and
laced a base-hit driving in a run. Sammy Sosa added to the outburst and drew
a walk plating one more runner. Orlando Palmeiro followed and he delivered a
one-base hit resulting in an exciting win for Toronto and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Overall Toronto out-hit Pittsburgh 17 to
9.
The victory went to Billy Koch(2-5) who went 1 inning, allowing 4 runs.
Byung-Hyun Kim(3-5) was hit with the loss in relief. Jay Buhner smashed 2
homeruns for Pittsburgh but his effort was wasted in the loss.
